OutdateRef 206: Youtube and Whatsits Galore

Adam, Russ, and Nathan jumped online to chat a whole lot about gaming this week.

We start comparing our Youtube searches, like Dinosaurs and a mind melting discussion about our weak

understanding of the expansion of our Universe. Eventually we dig into faint memories about retro games and

our love of old Las Vegas arcades from the late 90s. It’s a weird episode, but I hope you enjoy it.

Outdated References 195: Andor Finale & Last of US

This week Russ and I chat a lot about a little bit of everything as I slowly loose my voice during the duration of recording this episode. (Sorry.) I got a new key issue to my comic book collection and I got a new Neo-Geo MVS game, like New NEW, not just new to me. Eventually we start out spoiler chat about Last of Us but, more importantly, we get to sink our teeth into the juicy show that was Andor Season 2.

Outdated References 105: The Watcher, Three Ships & Horny Whales

“Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans”

– John Lennon."

This is so true. Besides all of our usual shenanigans, we had a friend pass away and recently, my wife's Dad also passed away. So as the posting of this episode, I am in Puerto Rico with my Wife, Coral and the rest of my in-laws remembering lost love ones and celebrating life. So apologies for the sporadic releases, we will try our best to stay inconsistently consistent. That being said, we did take a week off so we will be chatting about the finales of What If and Lower Decks.

This week, Adam, Russ, Coral and I discuss Adam playing Castlevania Advance collection (Circle of the Moon) & Neo-Geo Pocket Collection. Nathan got Xenocrisis for the Neo-Geo & Adam immediately starts to bust my balls for buying a MD port. Oh and on Nintendo news, their new online upgrade is kind of BS. We have a short Reservation Dogs discussion. Seriously, check that show out, it's really good. Of course we all add in our 2 cents about the Ted Lasso finale.

The main topic os discussion is "What If... the Watcher Broke His Oath?," "Star Trek Lower Decks: Wej Duj (Three Ships)," & "Star Trek Lower Decks: First First Contact."

Thank you for sticking with us, we really do appreciate the clicks, not because we make any money off of this, but it inspires us to know that someone out there actually listens to this podcast and that's a little weird but totally awesome.

My 10 Years Neo Geo Big Red Restoration

Back in 2007, I purchased arcade cabinet that was a carcass of one of my favorite arcade machines, a Neo-Geo MVS 4 Slot. All the unique components that made it a Neo-Geo was ripped out and was converted into one of my most loathed on-rail shooters, CarnEvil. Seriously, I really do hate CarnEvil and seeing that game inside a Big Red frame made me want to restore this cabinet into is former glory. So, I paid $200 for a machine that had some much potential in becoming one of and did my best to make this into one of my most desired machines.

I dragged this machine into my garage and started my restoration. I started with removing the marquee and the control panel overlay. Sadly, I had to throw the original panel cover away because I wanted to replace it with a new Neo-Geo MVS overlay. I then removed all the light gun cabling and proceeded to fill in the holes with bondo. I pulled out the coin mech, only to literally throw it away on accident during one of my many moves. You see, I had this cab half-finished but for a good chick of time, it sat inside a storage unit because I did not have the space to work on it and during one of my many moves between apartments, the coin door was placed in a pile of scrap that got tossed out with the trash. So yeah, freaking awesome.

A Blast from the Neo-Geo Past: King of Fighters '97 VHS

I picked up this VHS tape on a whim because I have always had a soft spot for old obsolete media formats. It's why I still have all of my old retro gaming consoles and Audio Cassettes, Reel to Reel, Laser-disc and HD DVDs.

So as a self proclaimed Neo-Geo Geek, I had the opportunity to pick up this VHS tape full of weird combos and endings with each and every team. It was too tempting to pass, but honestly, I think it's a little hard to sit through, but I wanted to capture this VHS and put it on Youtube for archival purposes since VHS will only last for so long before they will just deteriorate to time.  So enough of my rambling, enjoy the King of Fighters '97 VHS tape!
